The Frivolous Tale of the Picot Lift

“The Frivolous tale of the picot lift” is a wall design made from rope knotted lace. It is a collage where I show my first experiments in 3 dimensional lace.

Wanting to preserve the airy feel of the lace while building it up in layers I continuously work with different materials and try out different connections. The picot lift is one of the connections where it enables the lace to be build on top of each other.

The challenge has been to add a new knotting connection, but change as little as possible to the original technique to behold the strength. I have managed to accomplish this in the design where the 3d elements can still be knotted out of single rope, keeping its strength and power but fully lifting itself out of its 2 dimension.

This connection is important in my work were my mission is to use 3d lace in more architectural designs.
